WATCH: Car struck by lightning

Be careful what you wish for.

A young boy learned this the hard way after wishing that the family car would get hit by lightning.

The family was driving through a storm in southern Utah when a bolt of lightning struck the SUV’s antennae.

“You could definitely feel the hairs on your neck just go up,” said Taylor Morlock, who made the wish.

Fortunately no one was hurt. The strike blew out the electrical system and three tires and the family had to wait on the side of the road for help.

Though it is a common belief that rubber tires that protect occupants of a car during a lightning strike (if all the windows are closed), it’s actually the metal frame of the car that disperses the electricity, which then exits through the tires.
