Victoria Police say it may take months for the DNA test results to come back in the Michael Dunahee case. They are not saying why it might take that long.

In late July, police said they were collecting a DNA sample from a man who posted in an online forum that he had been asked for a sample from police. That forum has since been taken down.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

However, police have said all along they do not think this man is Michael Dunahee, who disappeared from a Victoria playground in 1991. They have received more than 11,000 tips in this case, and say testing this man’s DNA is ‘a formality.’

Timeline: The Michael Dunahee case

On the Facebook page ‘We Will Never Forget Michael Dunahee‘, someone identifying themselves as a family member posted on August 1: “If everyone could please stop asking when results will be in and speculating the outcome. We know the same amount as the public. We do not have the answers to these questions and we (the Dunahee’s and the young man at question) are just trying to continue with our lives in the mean time.
Thank you for understanding.”
