Homicide investigators in Burnaby after human remains found in park

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating after a burning body was discovered in a Burnaby park early Thursday morning. Rumina Daya reports – Mar 18, 2021

Homicide investigators have been called out to the 4300-block of Garden Grove Drive in Burnaby where human remains were found in Greentree Village Park.

RCMP said they were called to the area around 2 a.m. There is a large police presence in the area and a large swath of the area has been blocked off.

The Burnaby Fire Department said it was called overnight to attend a bush-and-grass fire in the park. Police and ambulance were already at the scene and told firefighters a body was involved in the blaze.

Investigators describe the neighbourhood as a mixed-use residential and commercial area that is “used frequently, even throughout the overnight hours.”

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said it is working to identify the victim.
