Man charged with 2nd-degree murder after father, 70, stabbed in North York

Global News has learned a man has been charged with second-degree murder after his 70-year-old father was stabbed in North York on Tuesday.

Officers were called to a home on Hearst Circle, in the area of Jane Street and Trethewey Drive, for reports of a stabbing just before 11:30 a.m.

Police said a man was pronounced dead at the scene while another was transported to hospital.

Police tweeted there were reports a man was stabbed before the suspect then stabbed himself.

In a news release issued Tuesday evening, police identified the man who died as 70-year-old Arturo Acuna of Toronto.

His son, 33-year-old Toronto resident Ronnie Acuna Aguirre, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Police said the stabbing was an “isolated event” and they don’t believe any suspects are outstanding.
