Nova Scotia reported one new case of COVID-19 on Wednesday, and said the case is related to travel outside of Atlantic Canada.
There are 11 active cases in the province.
In a Wednesday provincial COVID briefing, Premier Stephen McNeil thanked residents for following public health protocols and maintaining a low number of cases. But, he also warned residents that Nova Scotia isn’t in the clear yet.
“We’re watching what is going on across the country and one of our sister province close to home,” McNeil said.
“It does take long for COVID-19 to spread, and knowing there are cases of COVID-19 variants across the borders in NB, we have to remain vigilant, and humble.”
Chief medical officer of health Dr. Robert Strang said in the briefing that efforts continue to pay off, but they must keep going.
“With our low case number, we are unfortunately seeing a decline in our asymptomatic testing,” Strang said.
“It seems as people feel like we have very low case numbers, we don’t need to be so worried – that couldn’t be further from the truth.”
In the second wave of the pandemic, Nova Scotia has completed 165,214 tests for the virus. There have been 494 positive COVID-19 cases and no deaths.
Two people are in the hospital with COVID-19, including one in ICU. The province also reported 483 resolved cases since Oct. 1, 2020.
On Wednesday, the province updated its vaccination plan and said it is still on track to immunize Nova Scotians by the end of September 2021.
