Saskatoon police make arrest in case of downtown ‘barricaded person’

Saskatoon police have lifted traffic restrictions and made an arrest after a “barricaded person” led to the closure of a downtown roadway.

Police have charged a 30-year-old man with two counts of break and enter related to a situation in the 300 block of 4th Avenue South. Heavily armed officers could be seen on the roof of a 4th Avenue building.

The man was taken to hospital for assessment, according to a police news release.

Members of the tactical support unit and crisis negotiators helped patrol officers take the man into custody shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday. The area had been closed off for roughly six hours.

More charges are possible depending on the outcome of an investigation, according to police.
