Group donates clothing to less fortunate

What started out as a tweet on Twitter, quickly grew into a clothing drive for Main Street Project.

A total of 55 bags full of clothing were brought to United Way downtown today to help the city’s less fortunate on Saturday.

The event, called Walk With Dignity, started on the social media site between a few friends and the word quickly spread around Winnipeg.

“There’s so many support agencies but sometimes they fall short and that’s where just everyday people can come in, step up, do what they can, give what they can,” said Shelley Cook, one of the coordinators of the event. “It’s so simple and we can all do it.”

The group was asking for clean, gently used clothing and shoes for men, women and kids, all of which were donated to Main Street Project.

“If I have more than I need and it can help someone else’s budget out, especially someone who doesn’t have access to clothing the way I do, then absolutely it’s a worthwhile thing to do,” said Annette Greene, who donated clothing for the cause.
