TORONTO – The tropical depression that formed in the Pacific Ocean on Tuesday has developed into a tropical storm.

Tropical Storm Gil developed early Tuesday afternoon. Gil is located off the Mexican coast and currently poses no threat to land.

The storm is moving west-northwestward at near 22 km/h with winds around 95 km/h, with higher gusts.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that it is likely that Gil will develop into a hurricane within the next day or so.

Another tropical disturbance has also formed east of Gil, however the NHC said that it is unlikely that a tropical depression will form.
