There was a daring and complicated rescue Saturday night in Squamish after a man became stuck on the west face of the Stawamus Chief, also known as the Grand Wall.
Nearly two dozen search and rescue volunteers, RCMP and BC Ambulance Service were on scene.
Search Manager, BJ Schute said a man in his 30s got into trouble when the wind blew him off course, and slammed him into the rock face.
“He ended up hitting the face of the chief and his sail ended up getting hung around a tree,” he said. “Fortunately he was able to tie himself around another tree and call for a rescue.”
Rescue members flew in a helicopter to the top of the Chief, where they were able to lower a rope down to the man.
They then harnessed him up and safely brought him to the ground.
The man was then handed over to paramedics.
Schute said the man was injured, but not seriously.
