‘The Mortal Instruments’ sequel to shoot in Toronto this fall

Lily Collins stars in 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.'. Handout

TORONTO — The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones hasn’t opened in theatres but already its sequel is in pre-production.

Global News has learned The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes will start filming in Toronto on Sept. 23 — only a month after City of Bones comes out.

Director Harald Zwart will be back for the second chapter and stars Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower are set to reprise their roles.

Cameras will roll on the sequel until early December.

City of Bones, which opens Aug. 21, was filmed in Toronto late last year. It will have its Canadian premiere — with some of the stars walking the red carpet — on Aug. 15 at the Scotiabank Theatre on Richmond Street West.

The movies, based on a series of fantasy novels by Cassandra Clare, are set in New York City.
