RCMP say alcohol is believed to have been a factor in a deadly crash between a cyclist and an SUV in Cochrane on Wednesday
The crash happened on Highway 22 between Highway 1A and Sunset Boulevard at around 5:30 p.m.
RCMP said the cyclist, a 54-year-old man, was hit while travelling on the highway. He pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, a 58-year-old man, was taken to hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police closed down both directions of the highway temporarily as officers investigated.
RCMP are asking anyone with information about the crash or whose vehicle may have been hit while travelling on Sunset Drive before the fatal collision to call the Cochrane detachment at 403-851-8000 or to report it anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
