Reached by phone, Cook told Global News that his family is not missing, and that they are on a honeymoon in Alberta.

“They’re portraying us as missing people and we’re not. We may be disobedient people, or people going through the court process, but missing? No.”

Saanich police later released another statement, acknowledging that they are still trying to locate the family.

“The focus of this matter continues to be on the safety and well-being of the children,” it said. “We have received several tips from the public to assist in this investigation and continue to seek additional information.”
