Man arrested after hours-long standoff in East Vancouver

A man was arrested and taken to hospital under the Mental Health Act after a seven-hour standoff in Vancouver.

Officers were called to the area of Parker and St. George streets in East Vancouver around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday for a domestic dispute involving a lot of yelling, police said.

When officers began speaking to the two people involved, a man refused to exit a motor home.

Witnesses reported seeing heavily armed officers and an armoured police vehicle.

Negotiators and the emergency response team were called out.

A police negotiator could be heard trying to communicate with a man apparently holed up inside a vehicle parked outside of a business on Parker Street.

Police determined the man was wanted on a Canada-wide immigration warrant, as well as a warrant for uttering threats.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday he was arrested and appeared to be unconscious when officers took him out of the motor home.
