Toronto police say a woman has been injured after a crash in the city’s downtown area on Friday and that Ontario’s police watchdog is now investigating the incident.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said at around 3 a.m. Toronto police officers witnessed a vehicle of interest driving along Sherbourne Street.
Police officers followed the car along Bloor Street to Parliament Street and attempted to stop it, the SIU said.
The car then crashed into a guardrail injuring the driver inside, the SIU said. A 24-year-old woman was taken by paramedics to hospital in serious but stable condition.
The SIU investigates the conduct of the responding officers in instances where there has been death, serious injury or alleged sexual assault.
