CALGARY – Police are searching for a man who allegedly exposed himself to a young girl in the southeast community of McKenzie Lake.

Around 8:40a.m. Tuesday morning, the 13-year-old girl was walking to school in the 300 block of Mount Douglas Close when it’s alleged the man approached her and exposed himself before running away.

The girl ran to Mountain Park School nearby where police were called.

Police conducted several patrols and neighbourhood inquiries but were unable to find the suspect.

The man is described as Caucasian, 5’7", between 30 and 40 years old, clean shaven with a medium build and dark eyebrows. He was wearing a black toque with white and red stripes on the bottom, dark navy jeans and a black puffy winter coat.

Anyone who has information relating to the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers.

Mountain Park School issued a letter to parents Tuesday afternoon regarding the incident. It included the following safety tips:

1. Walk with others and use the buddy system. You are an easier target when alone.

2. If someone in a car should stop and ask for help or directions, or shout out, do not go near the car.

3. Stay at an arms’ reach or more away from strangers.

4. If someone is following you on foot or in a car, go to a place where others are present. Do not try to hide.

5. No one should ask you to look for a lost item. If a stranger asks you to help them look for something, run to a safe place.

6. Never go anywhere with someone you do not know (neither in a car, nor on foot).

7. If someone does try to take you – yell and scream, “this in not my parent” and make a lot of noise.

8. Never take anything from strangers.
