VERNON — A Vernon family has returned home safe after their Mexican vacation was interrupted by a double assassination at their resort.
Larry Wulff says his family was staying at Las Flores hotel in Mazatlan’s Golden Zone, an area they were told was a tourist safe-zone.
Wulff took photos following the shooting, just minutes after his wife and son had returned to their first floor room at the hotel.
One victim lay within the hotel area; another was killed inside a pickup truck on the property. Wulff had heard the two victims were trying to hide out at their hotel.
“I counted 19 shell casings beside the body next to the door,” says Wulff, who adds the hotel shut down the internet following the attack.
The Wulff’s now believe there is no safe area in Mazatlan following their first-hand experience.
