When the economy slumps, shoppers clip coupons to save a buck here and there.
But now, with the Internet, a deal is just a click away and the savings can be enormous.
Websites like Twongo and Groupon have recently been gaining traction; customers are offered a daily deal when they sign up to be notified by email.
The online vouchers, which often require a minimum number of purchases for the deal to become available, offer shopper’s deep discounts the more people buy.
Some deals even slash normal retail prices by up to 90 per cent.
Many Central Okanagan businesses, ranging from restaurants to spas, have recently jumped on the Twongo and Groupon bandwagon to get their stores noticed.
Twongo co-owner Michael Minor has chosen Kelowna as the company’s Canadian launch city and business headquarters last August.
Groupon launched in Kelowna last month; the U.S. based company was recently offered $6 billion by Google but turned down the offer.
