19-year-old London man identified as victim in fatal Highbury Avenue crash: OPP

A fiery, two-vehicle crash Wednesday on Highbury Avenue just north of the city claimed the life of a 19-year-old London man and sent another person to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, provincial police said Thursday.

Police said the collision occurred around 11:20 a.m. along Highbury Avenue near Eight Mile Road and involved an SUV and tractor trailer. Both became engulfed in flame soon afterward.

Photographs police posted to Twitter appeared to show the charred remnants of the transport truck.

The male driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified on Thursday as Alexander Siolas, 19, of London.

Police said the driver of the tractor trailer was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries. In a statement Wednesday, police had said the individual suffered serious injuries.

The collision left Highbury Avenue closed for several hours as for investigation and cleanup.
