Health officials on Tuesday reported 11 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and no new deaths.
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 10 test-positive cases and one epi-linked case.
There are 2,756 confirmed cases of the disease in the province. Of those, 2,416 patients have fully recovered, or more than 87 per cent.
B.C. now has just 172 active cases.
Eleven patients are in hospital, with five of them in intensive care.
The province’s COVID-19 death toll remains at 168.
Henry said there is a new outbreak at the Maple Hill long-term facility in Langley.
Henry said health officials are taking a “thoughtful and measured” approach to reopening the province’s economy.
“It is a gradual transition and we’re slowly turning up the dimmer switch as we learn to adapt at each of the stages that we’re going through,” she said.
Indoor spaces with poor ventilation will remain closed, she added, and guidelines are being developed to reopen spas, hotels and resorts and restart recreational sports as part of the third phase of the province’s reopening plan.
Restrictions on large gatherings will remain in place.
“We will have the opportunity to do these things again, but just not now,” she said. “This is not the time to take those risks.
“It only takes one person in a crowded setting to spread it to many others.”
