Regina to celebrate India

Prime Minister Stephen Harper declared 2011 as the Year of India in Canada, and Regina will play a part in the celebrations.

The Queen City is one of eight Canadian communities that will host events throughout the year.

Saskatchewan has close ties with India, with the province accounting for almost half of Canada’s trade with the nation.

Organizers believe this is a great way to eliminate misconceptions about India.

“Sharing the culture and how open India is,” Renu Kapoor, Saskatchewan Chairperson of Year of India in Canada said. “India is such a melting pot. You can see all types of different cultures there, and they’re still a democratic country. We are living so happily.”
