FCC employees donate over $450,000 to The United Way

The United Way is benefiting from $456,620 raised by Farm Credit Canada employees.

For the 12th consecutive year, FCC employees raised money through fundraising and personal donations. Each dollar raised was matched by FCC.

Every year FCC employees raise more and more money, a trend they hope to continue. Last year the company donated $386,000 to The United Way.

“This (year) is an increase of $70,000 over last year,” Vincent Giard from FCC said. “The fact they stepped up to the plate and we’ve got such a huge increase over last year, I’m so overwhelmed by how generous they are.”

The generous donation astounds Joanne Grant, the Chief Executive Officer of The United Way. She says the money will go towards multiple programs to help both children and adults in Canada.

“You can’t just pick one thing to fix,” Grant explained. “You have to take a wrap-around affect to ensure they can tap into whatever they need, because it’s not just poverty. It may be addictions; it may be mental health issues.”

Some of the programs include working to keep kids engaged in school, developing life skills and helping adults get an education.

Next year’s goal from FCC is to reach $500,000.
