HALIFAX – Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter says Percy Paris will be back in cabinet now that assault charges against him will go through an adult diversion program rather than the courts.
Earlier today, a provincial court judge agreed to send the case to the adult diversion program and set the matter over to October 24th.
Liberal Keith Colwell alleges he was assaulted by Paris on May 9th as the two were arguing in a washroom next to the legislative chamber.
Paris resigned as minister of economic and rural development and tourism a few hours later when Halifax police charged him with assault and uttering threats.

Outside court in Halifax this morning, Crown attorney Denise Smith said by taking part in the program, the accused must accept responsibility for the offence.
The legislature’s internal affairs committee has also been asked to look at Paris’s conduct.
Dexter noted the committee has yet to meet and he didn’t say when Paris would be back in cabinet.
