Wear Pink in the CFL

Sorry for the lack of updates on the blog… things have been pretty crazy with all the local sports teams starting up. You know how it goes – when it rains, it pours!

Time to tackle a quick topic today…

Not sure if you saw it, but the Quarterbacks for the Saskatchewan Roughriders all wore pink jersey’s today at practice. Most other players were wearing pink laces and/or pink gloves – all in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
It turns out they can only wear pink at practice as the CFL won’t allow them to wear the colour during games.
You read that right.
The CFL will not allow players to wear pink during games.

Why?
Good question… don’t really have an answer though it appears the league just doesn’t want to be attached to one charity or cause. Fine in theory but it does look bad in the court of public opinion.
I can understand their logic.
If they allow teams to wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month, why not wear Yellow for LIVESTRONG Day? Why not wear pink for Anti-Bullying Week?

Catch my drift?
So maybe the CFL is right… then again, I can understand why some people view this as a poor decision by the league. So why not compromise? Instead of a symbolic gesture, why not just make a league wide donation towards Breast Cancer research or support? Everyone wins that way… right?
