What a start by the Saskatoon Hilltops!

The Blue and Gold started the season on the right foot with a convincing 51-14 victory over the Winnipeg Rifles. Ian Miller had a ridiculous day with three straight touchdown catches, while Kit Hillis had a pair of TD’s as well including a 54-yard punt return for a major. Props to Spring Camp standout, Graham Unruh, who scored his first career PFC Touchdown.

Here are the key stats…

Chase Bradshaw: 12/20, 221 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT
Ian Miller: 3 rec., 72 yards, 3 TD
Kit Hillis: 4 rec., 51 yards, 1 TD

Up next for the Hilltops – a chance at redemption as they will visit the Edmonton Wildcats in a re-match of last season’s PFC Championship game.

BTW the Hilltops had a stellar crowd at Gordie Howe Bowl but there is still room for much more. If you get a chance, make your way down on Saturday September 18th as the Hilltops play host to the Regina Thunder in what could be a preview of this year’s PFC Championship Game.

A tough break for Huskies Running Back Dathan Thomas.
Thomas injured his knee in October 2008 and has been on the road to recovery ever since. This was supposed to be his big return to the CIS but in a cruel twist of fate, he suffered yet another injury – just 90 minutes into the first practice of Training Camp.
During a drill, Thomas was hit by Brodie Rothe and as he fell backwards Cam Redl and Joel Seutter appeared to roll right into his leg.

The end result…
Thomas is out 4-6 weeks with a broken fibula.
Heartbreaking.

The Huskies have had a solid training camp thus far. Players looked focused and seem to be in great shape. As always keep it tuned to Global Sports as we provide you with the most comprehensive coverage on the Saskatchewan Huskies Football team.

The Saskatoon Blades start training camp this week. They’ll host a media conference on Wednesday afternoon and then hit the ice on Thursday in Martensville.

The big questions…

1. Which three twenty year olds will stick around?

2. Who will be named Team Captain?
