17-year-old in serious condition after shooting in Toronto’s east end

A 17-year-old boy is in serious condition after a shooting in east-end Toronto, officials say.

A Toronto police spokesperson said emergency crews were called to a residential area near Wakunda Place and O’Connor Drive, west of Victoria Park Avenue, just before 7:45 p.m.

A spokesperson for Toronto Paramedics said the patient was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police initially said a suspect was subsequently arrested and a gun was found. They also initially said multiple other suspects reportedly left the area in a white SUV were also wanted.

However, in an update Thursday morning, police with 54 Division said the person in custody is not related to the shooting and there is still one suspect outstanding. They added they are only looking for one person, not multiple people.

The victim is expected to recover, police said.
