Calgary Police release identity of murder victim

The Calgary police homicide unit is now investigating an overnight shooting that killed one man and sent another to hospital in life-threatening condition. Mike Hills, Global News

CALGARY- Police have released the identity of Calgary’s latest murder victim.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday June 29, police were called to the 800 block of 8 Ave. S.W. for reports of shots fired.

When they arrived, they found two men suffering gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.

24-year-old Liban Hussein of Ft. McMurray died in hospital.

The other man remains in critical condition.

The Homicide Unit is now investigating.

“We do know they were involved in a dispute with an individual or several individuals, and during that dispute a handgun was produced and shots were fired,” explains S/Sgt. Doug Andrus. “Those individuals then fled the area.”

Police have seized CCTV footage from the area in hopes it will identify the suspects.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
