Police say the sudden death of a man in Fredericton is being treated as the city’s first homicide of the year.
The Fredericton Police Force says they responded to the north side of Wilmot Park, near Woodstock Road at 8:10 a.m. after receiving reports of a man lying on the ground.
Police say the man received significant injuries and was declared dead.
“Visible injuries were inconsistent with a death caused by natural or self-inflicted means. At this time, we do not believe a firearm was involved,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

The victim has not been identified, but police say his was in his 20s or 30s. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.
Wilmot Park remains closed as police conduct their investigation.
No arrests have been made.
