Winnipeg Police crack down on Prostitution

Winnipeg police are cracking down on the illegal sex trade industry.

The service released it’s annual crime stats today.

The report shows a dramatic rise in prostitution arrests. Between 2007 to 2008, arrests went up by 20 percent.

Even though the information is a year old, those who work to help get women off the streets say prostitution is a growing problem in Winnipeg.

Tammy Reimer works at sage house, a drop in centre for women involved in prostitution, says most of the girls are dealing with issues that lead to the life on the street, like sexual and drug abuse.
