Edmonton man killed in collision near Jasper

EDMONTON- An Edmonton man is dead, after a collision east of Jasper Friday evening.

RCMP were called to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 16, about 21 kilometres east of Jasper, around 6:15 p.m. Friday.

Officers say an SUV with four people inside was heading east along the highway when it crossed the centre line, into the path of an oncoming semi truck.

RCMP say the semi tried to avoid the collision, but the SUV hit the rear axle of the truck.

The driver of the SUV, a man in his 30s from Edmonton, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to Jasper RCMP.

Three other people inside the SUV were taken to hospitals in Jasper and Hinton, with unknown injuries.

The driver of the semi truck was not injured in the collision.
