New Emergency Plan for McKinley Landing

KELOWNA ~ For years the residents of McKinley Landing have lived the reality of their location – there is only one road in and one road out and while it’s likely that won’t change anytime soon, how they prepare for emergency situations has.

After a year’s worth of consultations the McKinley Landing Residents Association has released a new Neighbourhood Emergency Plan, providing residents with tips on evacuation procedures specific to the 700 resident’s unique ‘one way’ situation.

President of the Association Brad Dahl says they did an online consultation with resident last year, “We found that fire safety and road safety were the two major issues in the community. There was an emergency plan before but it was a bit out of date so we simplified it and kind of brought it up to date with standards with the Kelowna Fire Department and the RDCO.”

“This plan is about raising awareness in the neighborhood and it is about encouraging residents to be better prepared so that when a disaster does happen they know what to do,” explains Kelowna Fire Department Deputy Chief Jason Brolund.
