1 man seriously injured, 2 arrested after assault in Kingston’s Hub district: police

Kingston police say two men were arrested after a serious assault left another man with life-threatening injuries.

Police were called to the Hub area just before 3 a.m. Friday to respond to a reported fight at Bubba’s Pizzeria on Princess Street.

According to a police news release, an altercation began in the restaurant involving multiple people.

“Some individuals attended inside the Bubba’s Pizzeria. There was a disagreement between staff and management and the individuals,” Staff Sgt. Steve Koopman told Global News in an interview.

Police say the potential Bubba’s customers then damaged a window of the pizzeria, causing roughly between $500 and $1,000 in damages.

The fight eventually spilled out onto the street, police say and the altercation became violent.

A 21-year-old man was sent to hospital with serious injuries following the altercation. The man reportedly has life-threatening injuries.

A 28-year-old man, who police say was connected to Bubba’s in some way, was arrested on assault-related charges, and a 25-year-old man, who was connected to the victim, was arrested and charged with uttering threats and causing a disturbance.

Kingston police’s major crimes unit is investigating the incident and, as of Friday at 11 a.m., is still at the scene of the pizzeria.

Princess Street was closed at Division Street following the altercation but opened once again around 8:30 a.m. Friday.
