Woman in wheelchair dies after Mississauga hit-and-run, police say

Peel police say a 45-year-old woman in a wheelchair has died after being struck by a vehicle that fled the area in Mississauga Friday morning.

Emergency crews were called to Dixie Road and Lakeshore Road East for reports of a collision a little after 6:30 a.m.

“We believe the victim had been operating a motorized scooter northbound on Dixie Road in the bike lane,” said Peel Regional Police Const. Heather Cannon.

The woman, who was later identified as Penny Cousard, died at the scene.

Police are canvassing the area for surveillance video and are looking for a 2014 black Honda Civic with the Ontario licence CKCX 123 with damage to its front right side.

The northbound lanes on Dixie Road have been closed for the police investigation.
