According to the Canadian Diabetic Association, two million Canadians have Type 2 Diabetes and don’t know it. Despite the gloomy statistics there is hope.  People who are prediabetic can take steps to reduce their risk of diabetes, heart attack and stroke.  And those same steps can benefit people with diabetes. Registered Dietician Barbara Allan is making a salad from her new book ‘The Diabetes Prevention and Management Cookbook’ which is full of recipes to help fight the effects of the disease.

Alopecia areata is a type of hair loss that occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles, which is where hair growth begins. The disease is most common in people younger than 20, but children and adults of any age may be affected. Neck-tie designer Tanya Huang began losing her hair when she was 10. She is the co-founder of BAM! (Bold Alopecia Movement) which is throwing a hair and fashion show this week to raise money and boost the self esteem of people living with the disease.
