Charges could be on the way for a 28-year-old man who fell asleep at the wheel and rolled his pick-up truck in to the Little Souris River.

Brandon RCMP said the incident happened at approximately 5:00 a.m. Friday morning on Highway 10 in the Rural Municipality of Cornwallis.

Two photos released by police showed a white 2003 Dodge Ram upside-down and half submerged next to a bridge crossing.

Police said the driver, from Laurier, Manitoba,  was able to get out of the vehicle on his own following the incident, walk to a nearby farmyard, and call 911. The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

An investigation revealed the man fell asleep while driving, RCMP said.

Charges are being contemplated.
