EDMONTON – Federal Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff is defending Alberta’s oilsands and attacking Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s refusal to back Edmonton’s Expo 2017 bid.
Ignatieff spoke for about 20 minutes Thursday night and then took an hour’s worth of questions from about 200 Liberal supporters in Edmonton as part of his "Open Mike" cross-country town hall tour.
He told the crowd he has defended Alberta’s oilsands for the last five years.
He says he doesn’t agree with recent moves by U.S. companies such as Avon to avoid using oilsands fuel to distribute their products.
Ignatieff says he doesn’t believe in boycotts.
He says the oilsands are a national industry that employs thousands of Canadians.
