Alberta, Saskatchewan deal with wet weather

Though a Local State of Emergency has been lifted in Fort McMurray, Alta., two nearby communities faced mandatory evacuations on Friday.

The area has experienced almost 120 mm of rain so far this month. The monthly average is 74.8 mm.

On Thursday, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo told 340 residents in Grayling Terrace and another 78 in the Draper Road area to pack their belongings and leave as waters began to rise.

The area is expected to receive another 10 to 20 mm of rain by Saturday.

RCMP rescued two canoeists who were stranded on an island for two days without supplies. Four more canoeists are still missing.

Meanwhile several parts of central Saskatchewan are under rainfall warnings.

Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings for Saskatoon and surrounding municipalities, including Prince Albert and La Ronge. The area can expect 50 to 80 mm of rain by Saturday morning. Rain is expected to end Sunday morning.
