HAVELOCK, Ont. – Police in the Peterborough area are hunting for a bee thief.
O-P-P say a local beekeeper reported Thursday that someone had been on his property north of the village of Havelock and stole several of his queen bees.
Six custom-made beehives were also taken.
Police say the beekeeper believes the theft happened between Sunday and Monday.
He told officers that many area keepers lost their bees to the cold during the winter and that he suspects the thief is another beekeeper who would be familiar with the handling and care of the insects.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Ontario Provincial Police or Crime Stoppers.
