CALGARY – The new 75,000 square foot East Calgary Health Centre officially opened its doors Monday morning. The $10.6-million facility brings together more than 30 clinics and programs including primary care, chronic disease management, oral health, addiction and mental health services, speech language services, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease services, among others.
“The East Calgary Health Centre is a great foundation for community-based health care for the 134,000 residents of East Calgary,” said Premier Ed Stelmach in a press release.
“The 5-Year Funding Plan we announced in this year’s provincial budget allows us to continue improving access to high quality health care services throughout Alberta.”
The centre has also used statistics from east Calgary’s residents to target the health care needs of that particular community. For example, the population of east Calgary has a higher percentage of low-birth weight babies, therefore, the new centre will be offering public health, prenatal and postpartum community services to help address the issue.
“Providing new and consolidated health services in this manner will help improve health outcomes in this community,” said Gene Zwozdesky, Minister of Health and Wellness.
The centre is located at 4715 – 8th Avenue S.E.
