NDP names premier’s challenger in byelection

KELOWNA, B.C. – New Democrat Carole Gordon is taking on B.C. Premier Christy Clark in next month’s byelection in Kelowna.

NDP Leader Adrian Dix introduced Gordon on Tuesday, calling the elementary school teacher a superb candidate for the Westside-Kelowna riding.

Gordon says seniors’ care, childcare and women’s issues are among the top issues in the riding where she lost to Liberal Ben Stewart in the provincial election last month.

Stewart snatched 58 per cent of the vote and gave up his seat for Clark, who failed to win in her own Vancouver riding, which went to NDP challenger David Eby.

Dix says that unlike Clark, who lives in Vancouver, Gordon has made her home in Kelowna for more than 40 years.

Clark has said she will make the riding her second home if she wins the byelection, expected sometime in July. (CKFR)
