Ontario Provincial Police say the westbound collector lanes on Highway 401 have been reopened at Whites Road in Pickering on Friday following a shooting.
According to Durham Regional Police, officers responded to the scene at the request of the OPP following a shooting call involving an armed person at around 3:20 a.m.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said that when officers arrived, they found one vehicle with three people — two male victims and one female victim — who were all transported to hospital.
One male victim suffered serious injuries and is still in hospital. The other two victims sustained minor injuries and have been released from hospital, Schmidt said.
“The vehicle that is on scene here will be towed back to our forensic labs where we will do more testing off the highway once we can clear the highway itself,” Schmidt told reporters in an update at 11:30 a.m. adding that the investigation is nearly completed.
“We’ve had our emergency response team members scanning and searching the highway looking for evidence and we’re going to wait until that search is complete.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, the Toronto OPP detachment at 416-235-4981 or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
