SAINT JOHN, N.B. – A group that aims to promote and protect the English language in New Brunswick, has lost another bid to have its flag flown.
A spokesman for the Anglo Society of New Brunswick says they did not get a fair hearing.
Service clubs or causes are routinely given permission by Common Council to fly their flag in front of city hall.
The Anglo Society of New Brunswick hoped their flag could be raised in September, however their request was denied Tuesday night.
Saint John Mayor Ivan Court says that New Brunswick is a bilingual province, and the Anglo Society seems to be anti-bilingual.
Society member Jim Webb says the Anglo Society is against what they see as forced bilingualism – especially when it comes to getting a government job.
The Anglo Society was also denied its request to fly its flag in Bathurst next month.
