Man dies following shooting in Montreal hotel room

A 26-year-old man has died after he was gunned down in a hotel on de Maisonneuve Boulevard and Lambert Closse Street in Montreal’s Shaughnessy Village.

Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant said the shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday inside a room in the hotel.

The victim was shot in the upper body and taken to hospital in critical condition. His death was confirmed in the afternoon.

Investigators are trying to determine the circumstances that lead to the shooting.

No arrests have been made. Police are also trying to gather more information about the suspect, who is believed to have taken off by foot.

The death marks the 18th homicide of the year on Montreal police territory, according to Brabant.
