Parking for a price at Edmonton LRT

City council has approved a one year pilot project to allow LRT park-and-ride users to reserve parking spaces at four Edmonton LRT stations.

Up to 18 percent of parking stalls at the Clareview, Belvedere, Stadium and the new Century Park stations will be set aside for commuters who pay a fee of $40 or $50 a month.

The program will launch in 2011 and is expected to bring in a minimum of $230,000 which will pay to run the parking lots.

A private comany will operate the lots and ensure that vehicles parked in the reserved areas have a sticker showing that they have paid for a spot. Violators will be ticketed or towed after a grace period.

There will be no cost to park at night or on the weekend.
