Governments kick in cash for Southdale Community Centre

It’s been a long time coming, but after several years of hard work, the Southdale Community Centre will nearly double in size.

At a sod-turning ceremony Friday morning, the federal and provincial governments announced $4-million dollars in joint funding for the community centre’s expansion.

The expansion includes a second indoor hockey rink, a pleasure skating rink, more locker rooms and renovations to the front entrance and lobby.

"This expansion will provide much needed recreational space for the residents of Southdale and surrounding area and will ensure that local teams have more space to practice and host events," said Premier Greg Selinger.

The overall price tag for the project is $6-million dollars. Construction on the project begins next week.
