Winnipeg police say one of their own fired their gun during a traffic stop involving a stolen vehicle Monday night.

The whole thing started when police spotted a stolen car on Pembina Highway near Point Road at about 6:10 p.m.

Police tried to stop the car by boxing it in, but the driver rammed two police cruisers and got away. Police said during this time, an officer fired his gun.

A passenger in the stolen car opened their door and ran away on foot, and the driver took off in the stolen car, said police.
