RCMP have confirmed that an infant who was a ward of the province died on Wednesday, but they have not yet confirmed if the death is criminal in nature.
“We are conducting an investigation,” said spokesman Cpl. Wayne Oakes. “We’re in the early stage of looking at all aspects.”
There is very little information available at this point, but it is believed the child was admitted to hospital on Monday night.
Minister of Children and Youth Services Yvonne Fritz has confirmed that the child was a little girl under two years of age. She lived in a foster home with several other children, but it is unclear if the children are also foster children or if they are biological children of the foster parents.
The government is also investigating the death.
An autopsy has been set for Thursday morning.
