EDMONTON- A 41-year-old woman has been charged with several counts including Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death after a man was killed in an ATV collision Sunday morning.
Cecilia McDonald, of Fort McKay, is now facing several charges, including Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death, Fail to Remain at the Scene of Collision, and Assault with a Weapon.
McDonald has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 24, 2013.
A 52-year-old Fort McKay man died after a collision involving two All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) Sunday.
RCMP were dispatched to a gravel road just north of Fort McKay around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Investigators say two ATVs, each carrying one person, collided with one another.
The 52-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and was found unresponsive at the scene. Officers say he was rushed to hospital where he died a short time later.
The 41-year-old female driver of the other ATV fled the scene, according to RCMP. She was located a short time later and was taken into custody after “a minor altercation to get her off of the ATV,” Wood Buffalo RCMP said.
RCMP say the investigation is ongoing however, alcohol is believed to be a factor.
The victim’s family has been notified and his name is not being released.
Fort McKay is located approximately 500 kilometres north of Edmonton.
