Oakwood C.I. student shot during altercation near west-end Toronto school

Officials say a Oakwood Collegiate Institute student has been seriously injured after a shooting near the west-end Toronto school Friday afternoon.

A police spokesperson told Global News emergency crews were called to the Oakwood Avenue and St. Clair Avenue West area just after 2:30 p.m.

Police later said the shooting involved two males, both of whom were armed with guns. It happened on a street outside of Oakwood Collegiate Institute.

Police said the victim ran into the school for assistance where a vice principal performed first aid.

Paramedics said the patient was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Oakwood Collegiate Institute was put in a hold-and-secure mode after the shooting. It was lifted about an hour later.

Police closed the westbound lanes of St. Clair Avenue West between Oakwood and Appleton avenues. Streetcars are still running through the area.
