New Westminster police look for missing Native art

Police are looking for very valuable pieces of Native art that went missing in New Westminster.

Investigators say the complainant was at the boardwalk by the New Westminster Quay when he put his bag down and walked away from it for a few minutes.

When he returned, the bag was missing.

The missing items are as follows:

–The alder beaver transformation mask (carved by Nisga’a/Haida deceased artist Wayne Young) is valued at $10,000 to $12,000.

–The cast baton (artists Art Thompson, Richard Hunt, and George Elliot) was made for the Commonwealth Games of Victoria and is difficult to value.

–The Three Beaver Brothers print (by Wayne Young) currently retails for $1600 at Alcheringa Gallery (Victoria).
