Police investigate two serious collisions in north Edmonton

Edmonton – The Edmonton Police Service is investigating two serious collisions that happened within one hour of each other Monday night on 118 Avenue.

At around 11 p.m., a cyclist was rushed to hospital in life threatening condition after colliding with a vehicle.

Police say the man on the bike was going north on 81 Street, when he entered the intersection at 118 Avenue and was hit by a van.

Police say the cyclist, who is believed to be in his late 20’s or early 30’s, was not wearing a helmet.

Witnesses say he appeared to enter the intersection without slowing down or stopping.

The cyclists condition has been stabilized. He is now in serious condition.

Police say the driver of the van was not impaired.

Less than an hour later, there was a second crash a few blocks away.

A pedestrian was struck on 118 Avenue and 78 Street, leaving an 18-year-old woman with serious injuries.

Police are calling it a hit and run, and are urging witnesses to come forward.
